How Often Should You Tune Up Your Bike?
A straightforward answer to a question we get asked a lot at the counter.
How to Tell
How often a bike needs a tune-up depends mostly on how much it's ridden and where it's stored. A bike ridden a few times a week through the season typically needs attention once or twice a year. A bike that sits outside, gets rained on, or gets ridden hard off-road will need it more often. Some signs it's time: shifting that skips or hesitates, brakes that feel spongy or squeal, a chain that looks dry or rusty, or the bike just feels rougher than it used to.
Basic vs. Comprehensive
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Basic tune-up | $120 |
| Comprehensive tune-up | $175 |
| Drivetrain cleaning (add-on) | $40 |
Parts installed at the same time as a tune-up get a labor discount: 50% off with a Basic or a Comprehensive tune-up.
A basic tune-up covers the everyday adjustments: shifting, brakes, and a general check. A comprehensive tune-up goes deeper into the bike. If the chain and drivetrain are visibly dirty or gritty, drivetrain cleaning as an add-on makes the rest of the work last longer. See the full price list for everything else we do.
